An Ordinary Day turned out to be A Special Day

My views towards Birthdays are a little bit different, so I’m not really a ‘celebrator’ on this yearly occasion of mine. After Pune, where I had a wonderful list of friends, who’d do anything for anyone on their special day, I kept mostly to myself. Apart from an expected cake from my roomies last year, I honestly, didn’t expect anything this year. The day started with a couple of wishes from my roomies who gratefully decided not to give ‘birthday bumps’. A few more wishes from some of my close buddies in the night and in the morning somewhat gave me a smile. On the way to office, I thought of buying some sweets for my colleagues. But then, another devil thought came across my mind. I work for ITIS and the team I provide support to are from Testing. So, if the ITIS HR sends me a birthday wish, none of my project mates would receive. Only my manager can see my birthday email and I thought, I could ‘correct’ him and keep it to ourselves this year as well. So, I reached office empty handed.

Upon entering my cubicle, my team mate – a fresher who I mentor, from Testing (just to help us) wished me a happy birthday. I was genuinely surprised, smiled and said Thank you. I walked over to my seat, logged on to the system and tilted my head a little to see the surprise. My cubicle side wall was full of printout papers – all wishing me a happy birthday mostly from the Performance Test team (they’re the team to whom we do not extend our project support)! Turns out, one of them saw the FB alert for my birthday (and, only one of them was in my friend’s list)! It was a sweet little surprise and a mild shock (because, each and every printout ended with “We want Treat” [hehehe, just kidding guys!]). That, followed by an email which was sent out to the whole Walgreens team by my manager and then one – filled my Inbox with wishes. Feeling guilty, I went out post lunch and bought some sweets for the whole team. After that, the un-changeable cake cutting and ‘facial’ ceremonies begun and some even commented that I look more colorful in the ‘facial’ face! Couldn’t get the photos from the one who took, but here’s a couple from my cubicle side wall. Thanks very much guys, you made my day!

PS: You may think why I haven’t mentioned about my parent’s wishes. Well, my parents celebrate my ‘Star’ birthday which was about 3 weeks back!
